19. Insidious: Chapter 2
Release Date: 13th September
Director: James Wan
Stars: Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, Barbara Hershey
What’s The Story? Picking up where Insidious left off, the second chapter of the Lambert family story continues down the same path as they seek to discover why on earth they’re so susceptible to spirit invasion. I think it’s a lack of Vitamin D in their diet.
Impress Your Mates: Director James Wan’s reaction to all of the Saw sequels (he created the first one) was to not abandon ship this time, and instead to direct the Insidious sequel.

20. In A World
Release Date: 13th September
Director: Lake Bell
Stars: Lake Bell, Fred Melamed, Rob Corddry
What’s The Story? The daughter of one of cinema’s biggest trailer voice over guys with a desire to follow in her Dad’s footsteps aims to become a voiceover star in her own right. I cannot wait to see this, mainly because I think Lake Bell is brilliant and she’s not in nearly enough. The trailer is funny with heart, and we all love a bit of that don’t we?
Impress Your Mates: Lake Bell’s directorial debut.

21. Thanks For Sharing
Release Date: 13th September (UK) / 20th September (US)
Director: Stuart Blumberg
Stars: Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, Joely Richardson, Carol Kane, Pink.
What’s The Story? Three people with a rigorous appetite for what goes on between the sheets enter a 12-step sex addiction treatment program. With such an impressive cast it sounds like we could be seeing some of Hollywood’s finest engaging in a spot of rumpy pumpy.
Impress Your Mates: Pink’s first feature since starring in the questionable Catacombs from 2007.
22. Last Days On Mars
Release Date: 19th September (UK)
Director: Ruairi Robinson
Stars: Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, Elias Koteas, Olivia Williams
What’s The Story? A gaggle of astronauts who’ve never seen Alien, Event Horizon, Sunshine or Prometheus, head to Mars on a mission to collect species samples. Soon after, a terrifying being starts to pick them off one by one. Sci-fi films with storylines such as this will always be worthy of watching, as anything which furthers the notion that there’s other life out there is more exciting than a bath full of Angel Delight.
Impress Your Mates: Based on the short story The Animators by Sydney J. Bounds.

23. Blue Jasmine
Release Date: 20th September (UK) / 26th July (US)
Director: Woody Allen
Stars: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins
What’s The Story? After a life-changing event which reveals her husband is a duplicitous bastard, Jasmine (Blanchett) uproots from New York and heads out to San Francisco to spend time with her sister (Hawkins.) It’s Woody Allen, so to be honest, the story could be about a colony of slugs with no life goals.
Impress Your Mates: Marks Sally Hawkins’ second collaboration with Allen, the first being 2007’s Cassandra’s Dream.

24. Diana
Release Date: 20th September (UK)
Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Stars: Naomi Watts, Naveen Andrews
What’s The Story? Focusing on the last two years of Princess Diana’s life, Diana is played by the incredible Naomi Watts and looks deeper into her relationship with Dr Hasnat Khan (Andrews.) It’s already received a lot of stick for the audacity to tackle a topic which is still a sore point for many.
Impress Your Mates: As much as I love Watts, it’s a shame Jessica Chastain had to drop out of the film due to scheduling conflicts.

25. Runner, Runner
Release Date: 27th September
Director: Brad Furman
Stars: Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Gemma Arterton
What’s The Story? This is what happens when you gamble. After a college student enters an online poker game and goes bust, he decides he’d rather be a sore loser and risk his life by hunting down the man who beat him. It’s about time a film dealt with the repercussions of online gambling…possibly as a backlash to those awful adverts on TV.
Impress Your Mates: The film was produced by Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio.

26. Escape Plan
Release Date: 27th September (UK) / 18th October (US)
Director: Mikael Hafstrom
Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Vinnie Jones, Sam Neill
What’s The Story? A high security prisons expert finds himself locked up inside one of his own creations and has to use his insider knowledge to bust out and find out who framed him. Oh the irony! It’s stolen concept aside (Cube, anyone?) this is all about the two stars who still continue to get acting work in spite of having barely any skill in that department. Well, it’s all about the one liners, innit?
Impress Your Mates: Bruce Willis was at one time in the running for the film. Presumably he dropped out so he could make A Good Die To Die Hard.

27. Filth
Release Date: 27th September (UK)
Director: Jon S. Baird
Stars: James McAvoy, Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots
What’s The Story? A bigoted bastard of a cop who takes instructions from a tapeworm living inside his digestive tract, snorts, drinks and shags his way back to some bizarre semblance of normality in order to win back his wife and child. Sounds like an unusual route to take but this is all about James McAvoy going against type playing a right shit.
Impress Your Mates: Based on the Irvine “Trainspotting” Welsh novel.
