Man Of Steel has finally arrived in cinemas. The red-pantied crusader who’s had more faces than Joan Rivers is back! Understandably, the internet is ablaze with everyone and their mother, their mother’s tennis partner and their mother’s tennis partner’s husband throwing in their two cents about ole Supes.
To get a bit of variety into the debate, here are a few of my favourite reactions overheard while I blatantly eavesdropped outside a cinema toilet:

Man Of Steel is why we see movies on the big screen. It’s that rare beast of summer blockbusters with a brain driving forward the story. You’ll have no doubt heard about Zack Snyder’s rebooted take on Superman. In the months building up to its release, every form of media has been saturated with previews, yet none of them truly prepare you for what is an absolutely breathtaking contribution to cinema.

The Fast And The Furious franchise has become a big deal following the success of last instalment Fast 5. Fast & Furious 6 is what you’d call a Ronseal film. It does exactly what it says on the tin. For a series which careened into public view by putting the everyman (Paul Walker) in the driver’s seat, six films in that formula remains steadfast. If it ain’t broke and all that.
When characters unite across rival franchises and studios, it can often cause the blood of fans to reach a steady simmer. I’m prepared to throw big handfuls of caution to the wind in proposing this mashup. I believe it will satiate audiences until they start screaming “Mashup! Mashup!” every time they see two things in the world that are completely unrelated.
My love of cinema is twinned with another fascination of mine; true crime. When out jaunting across the globe back in 2008, I visited New Zealand for two months. It’s safe to say that we’ll deny ourselves life’s essentials (shampoo, sausages, etc.) to acquire a piece of celluloid history. This goes farther than the usual purchasing of a must-have Blu-ray.
